On the 15th July this year, a group of young people from Mountpottinger will hopefully be going to Tanzania with Kids4Schools, returning on the 30th July.
It will be a difficult journey- Dublin to Doha, Doha to Dar es Salam, overnight there and then an 8 hour drive in a bus to Dodoma. Back is Dodoma bus to Dar es Salam flight from there to Doha then 7 hour wait in airport for flight to Dublin arriving in at lunchtime. Don't expect much chat in the car on the way home!
The programme with Kids4School is based at their lodge in Dodoma- 8½ hours by bus west of the capital of Tanzania, Dar Es Salaam. In general the organisation assists broadly in the education of children from under privileged backgrounds, by providing uniforms to them ( a prerequisite for attending school in Tanzania), by providing them with a meal and generally distributing food and clothes to the villages where poverty is particularly bad. It helps with special schools in the area and is currently building its own academy. In order to tackle one of the reasons why children can't attend school - namely the simple task of getting drinking water can take hours- it has a programme of building water towers, fed by roof gutters from building roofs.
The work will be varied - from food distribution to painting/ light construction to helping at kids clubs and with sports. There is a mix of talents across our young people- some are happier with practical things while others like working with children.
Two weeks to go and we ask for prayers for the young people going, that they will be prepared spiritually for the task ahead and the adults on the organising committee. Also for travelling, for health and safety.
Fund Raising now complete! Thank you to everyone who has contributed and been involved.
